By most rural healthcare standards, SMG was an early adopter of a broad population health initiative, implementing one at its managed facility in 2017.  Today, its clinics operate a Medicare Annual Wellness Visit program, as well as a Chronic Care Management program, with enrollment that more than doubled in 2019.  The hospital’s retail pharmacy also assists with medication compliance, and its wellness center offers counseling on healthier living and eating habits.

SMG implemented its managed facility’s first comprehensive corporate compliance program, including the creation of required policies and procedures, the designation of a compliance officer and the establishment of a compliance committee that reports to its governing board.  It also performed in-service compliance training for all newly-hired and current employees, and developed a system for anonymous reporting of possible compliance issues.
